Hard to machine materials machining with cutting ceramic
Original language description
This article is dedicated to machining of hard materials such as hardened steel 58 HRC and Ni alloys type INCONEL with the aid of cutting ceramics. The first part of the article contains analysis and summary of current ceramics production including problems of thin layers deposition and also contains development in this specific area. The following part of this article describes cutting tests which were applied to each type of the ceramics. For these tests different types of ceramics were chosen eitherwith or without thin wear protective layers. Also different producers of the cutting inserts were chosen to compare quality of their products. The results of these cutting tests show a quality benefit of the thin layers for the ceramics that is used formachining of hard to machine materials with regard to tool life, quality of the surface finish and accuracy of machining.
