Optimization of Q-P Process Parameters with Regard to Final Microstructures and Properties
Original language description
This paper presents optimization of heat treatment conditions of low-alloyed 42SiCr steel. This steel possesses in basic state the strength of 980 MPa and ductility of 30%. Through the conventional treatment very high strength can be reached, but the ductility drops down to lower values. Due to the heat treatment designed according to Q-P (Quenching & Partitioning) method, the strength of this steel can be improved up to 2000 MPa while keeping the ductility over 10%. The parameters of Q-P process have been optimized with respect to final microstructures and properties. The influence of various parameters on the structure development was documented by light and confocal microscopy and the resulting mechanical properties were measured. Key words: high strength steel, Q-P process.
