Postprocessor development for multi-axis machining
Original language description
The quality and efficiency of automatically generated NC programs depends on the quality of the postprocessor used. The functionality of CAD/CAM systems, machine tools and numerical controls is continuously enhanced. However, all these components can befully used only with an appropriate postprocessor which converts the calculated toolpath from any CAD/CAM system to the NC program that is prepared for the specific NC machine. Postprocessors can be either generated in postprocessor builders or developedas a standalone application. Postprocessor builders provide a tool for postprocessor configuration step-by-step. The advantage of this method is the simplicity and the low time consumption, which is necessary for postprocessor design. On the other hand, most of the postprocessor builders have a limited flexibility that is caused by predefined choices of kinematic chains or limited numerical control library during configuration of a new postprocessor. For effective utilization of capabil
