Unconventional structure formed in semi-solid state
Original language description
Forming of materials in semi-solid state represents technology allowing production of half products of difficult shape in a single forming step. Thus it is possible to save expenses related to energy consumption, but also to use of materials that are difficult to form. Standard structure of tixoformed steel is composed of high amount of austenite in the form of globules embedded in a hard carbidic and austenitic mesh. Inverting this type of structure could lead to obtaining new types of structures withunusual mechanical and physical properties. A high vanadium content steel produced by powder metalurgy was used for experiment. Small temperature interval between solid and liquid phase was the main difficulty from technological point of view. After tixoforming a structure made of hard carbidic globules embedded in a matrix was obtained. A second possibility to obtain unconventional structure is to combine powder metallurgy and forming in semisolid state, when using a powder containing F
