Return Period and Annual Exceedance Probability in Seismic Hazard Assessment of a Real Locality for Technological Equipment
Original language description
The value of seismic hazard for a selected locality is a key parameter for the seismic risk assessment. Earthquake can be considered in a certain approximation as a recurrent natural phenomenon that can be expressed with two quantities - return period and annual exceedance probability. The paper explains both - return period and annual exceedance probability - and describes the application to an example for a real locality in Central Europe - Plzen (Pilsen) city. Attention is paid to the interpretationof the results. Discussion is concentrated to the application of attenuation factor that is unique for each focal region in the process of seismic hazard assessment.
