Effect of Advanced Thermomechanial Treatment on mechanical properties of low alloyed high strength steels

  • Original language description

Intercritical annealing, which is used to obtain suitable properties of TRIP steels, and Q-P processing are both using positive effect of retained austenite and multiphase micro structure to achieve good combination of strength and ductility of low alloyed steels. The aim of the intercritical annealing is to produce a combination of carbide free bainite, ferrite and a small amount of retained austenite. This structure can achieve the strength in the range of 800-1000MPa depending on its chemical composition with ductility reaching up to 30%. Q-P process produces retained austenite dispersed in a martensitic matrix as a thin film along martensitic needles, which increases the strength to 2000MPa while keeping the ductility at 10%. To ensure these properties it is not only necessary to follow suitable conditions of heat or thermomechanical treatment, but also to choose the convenient chemical composition which prevents carbides precipitation. Both processing methods, Q-P treatment and in
