Innovative Concepts for Hot Stamping Process

  • Original language description

Hot stamping is typically used for manufacturing car body parts. Thanks to hot deformation and rapid cooling, shaped parts with martensite microstructure and high yield and ultimate strengths are obtained. This paper provides an introduction to a new hotstamping process used together with the Q-P process for processing of high strength low alloy steels. By this procedure and by controlling the microstructure development, high strength exceeding 2000 MPa and elongation over 10% can be achieved. A steelcontaining 0.43% C, 0.59 - 1.17. % manganese and 2 - 2.6 % silicon was used for this experiment. FEM analysis was carried out to find hot stamping parameters for selected chemical compositions and sheet thicknesses. The results formed a basis of experimental work. The work consisted in material-technological modeling using a thermomechanical simulator. The primary goal of the experiment was to test the combination of hot stamping and Q-P processes for chosen UHS steels. The experiment pr
