    Static plate load tests on multi-layered geocell-reinforced bed

    The results of plate load tests on a circular footing with diameter of 300 mm, supported on unreinforced and multi-layered geocell-reinforced beds are presented. The influences of various parameters are studied including embedded depth of the first layerof geocell, vertical spacing of geocell layers and number of geocell layers below the footing base. The optimum embedded depth of the first layer of geocell and the vertical spacing of geocell layers were found to be approximately 0.2 times the plate diameter. The results show that the rate of bearing capacity enhancement and settlement reduction were decreased when the number of geocell layers was increased. For example, at settlement ratio of s/B=4%, the bearing capacity values are about 292, 427, 530, 642, and 688 kPa for unreinforced bed, and reinforced bed with one, two, three and four layers of geocell, respectively.
