Continuous Cooling of CMnSi TRIP steel

  • Original language description

A new strategy of thermo-mechanical treatment with continuous cooling was proposed and optimised for high strength low alloyed TRIP (transformation induced plasticity) steel with 0.2% C, 1.8% Si, 1.5% Mn. Basically all methods of processing TRIP steels that have been investigated in the last fifteen years incorporated a hold in the bainite region as an irreplaceable part of the processing. This hold should ensure an appropriate bainite content in the final microstructure and also sufficient carbon enrichment of austenitic areas. The new strategy described in this article was designed according to the conventional rolling mill processing of steels with similar chemical composition. All processing schedules contained the same heating to 1050oC and 10 incremental deformation steps during cooling to 830oC. After the deformations, the cooling was carried out either at constant cooling rates or by quicker cooling to 425oC with subsequent slower cooling to room temperature. Cooling parameters
