Heat treatment of closed-die forgings-process optimisation using modelling and FEM simulations
Original language description
Closed-die forgings are typically manufactured using the conventional route which comprises two consecutive processes. The first one involves producing the desired shape by forging. It is followed by the second process, heat treatment of the forged part. In spite od decades of optimization and gradual improvements in both processes, there is still some potential for further improvement in most cases. This promises potential savings in the production. Authors of this paper present one of the possible approaches to optimizing the manufacturing process for closed-die forgings, using advanced material-technological modelling combined with numercial simulations.
