Ultra high strenght composite steels
Original language description
The microstructure of steel is critical to its mechanical properties. The strongest known structure of the steel is martensite. Depending on the carbon content is possible in martensitic steels achieve tensile approaching the value of 3000 MPa. This benefit, however, is on the other hand counterbalanced by their brittleness which is to a certain extent correctable by tempering. Composite materials are used in wide range of industries. The reason are good properties, which are based on the selected combination of matrix and reinforcement. Behavior of composite materials can be also by used steel. A suitable choice of matrix and reinforcement and their ratio, the steel with high strength and excellent duktility can be made. The issue of choice of the type and ratio of matrix and reinforcement is associated with the design and optimization of of heat treatment, chemical composition of steel and thermodynamic storyline, which take place in the steel phase transformations. .
