The suitability of 42SiCr steel for Quenching and Partitioning Process
Original language description
QP (quenching and partitioning) heat and thermo-mechanical treatment was applied to middle carbon, low alloyed CMnSiCr steel. Various heating and cooling rates were tested for this steel and several treatments were accompanied by following annealing step. The effect of various processing strategies on mechanical properties and microstructures were determined by tensile tests and microstructure analysis carried out by the means of light and scanning electron microscopy. Volume fraction and morphology of retained austenite was further established by X-ray diffraction phase analysis. 14-21% of retained austenite was found in the samples after the treatments. High strengths around 1900MPa were obtained for most of the treatments with ductility between 12-19%.
