Inclusive design in the development of autonomous vehicles
Original language description
The proportion of older drivers in the population is rising. Their needs and abilities therefore need to be considered in the development & design process of driverless cars. All current conventional vehicles exclude some drivers, often unnecessarily, and Inclusive Design in conjunction with Autonomous Driving aims to highlight and reduce such exclusion. This paper extracts findings from international studies, statistics and surveys associated with automotive design mostly for older drivers and highlights difficulties that are experienced significantly more often by this demographic group.
