The paper deals with the comparison of selected optimization methods - Random Search, Hill Climbing, Tabu Search, Local Search, Downhill Simplex, Simulated Annealing, Differential Evolution, Evolution Strategy, and Self-Organizing Migrating Algorithm. The success of the optimization method is evaluated by various proposed evaluation criteria - the success of the method in finding the global optimum, the difference between the optimum and local extremes, the distances of quartiles of possible solutions, and the number of simulation experiments until the optimum is found. Some of the selected optimization methods are modified to improve their behaviour to find the global optimum. We test optimization methods on different discrete event simulation models. These models are focused on different problems in industrial engineering.
