Biomass is the oldest used fuel of the mankind (approximately 40 000 years) and still today it is important worldwide source of the energy. The paper is focused on history of biomass using in the Czech Republic, importance of renewable resources from thepoint of view of the Czech Republic energetic policy and it is also clarified using of biomass energy in present. There is defined total production of biomass in the Czech Republic as well as estimation of total utilizable potential. An important themeis finally usage of energy from the biomass for heat production and electric energy. Other themes are: economic and energetic aspects of biomass usage, market with biomass for energetic biomass usage, competitive strength of biomass comparing to other fuels, environmental aspects biomass usage.

Czech description

Biomasa je nejstarší palivo, které lidstvo využívá (asi 40 000 let) a i dnes je důležitým a velmi rozšířeným zdrojem energie. Článek se zabývá historií využívání biomasy v České republice, významem obnovitelných zdrojů z pohledu energetické politiky České republiky a možnostmi užití biomasy pro energetické účely v současnosti. Je zde stanoveno celkové množství využívané biomasy v ČR a odhadnut budoucí potenciál. Dále je pozornost zaměřena na konečné využití energie biomasy pro výrobu tepla a elektřiny,na ekonomické i ekologické aspekty užití biomasy a provedeno porovnání s dalšími druhy paliva.
