All oscillometric monitors use algorithmic methods to determine blood pressures. One popular algorithm uses brachial oscillometric waveform amplitude ratio of 50% of maximal amplitude. The objective of this study was to apply the 50% characteristic ratioalgorithm to oscillometric data obtained from 27 volunteers using a commercial wrist cuff and to compare the results with reference measurements of systolic blood pressure (SBP). A specialized data acquisition system was used in the study.
