Some Methods Systems and Sensors which are Possible for Driver's Drowsiness Estimation
Original language description
Recent studies show that driver drowsiness (fatigue) and inattention are major causes of fatal road accidents. A large number of these accidents could be avoided if the vehicles were equipped with sensors that reliably could monitor the attention and alertness cues of the drivers, and systems that, based on the sensor input, could warn the drivers in time. Driver fatigue and attention monitoring has been intensively researched in recent years and many approaches have been proposed, which include biological signal (EEG, ECG etc.) processing method, subjective report method, and behaviour analysis method. This paper gives some examples of the monitoring sensors which could be used (after some corrections) for the purpose of fatigue detection and also forfireman and military purposes. Presented sensors and systems were constructed and tested in laboratory and are in development so fare.
