Disturbance caused by penetration surge in interior installations of buildings

  • Original language description

Developments in the electronics industry and the growing availability of appliances, equipped with electronic components, are two factors contributing annually to the mountintg interference risk and surge damages resulting from direct or indirect effect of atmospheric discharges into conductive structures of building. The authors of this study focused on electromagnetic models of buildings that can be verified for specific external (basic) ways to protect buildings through a lightning conductor, down conductors (both usually metallic, hence high-voltage cables) and the grid systems underlying the Faraday cage of objects. The protection system cannot be checked only by a design controlling according to the applicable standards IEC 62305 [2], but on the basis of numerical calculation as well, which definitely provides more accurate and comprehensive results. These make it possible to get an immediate overview of the risks that may occur in buildings. This method is presented in this study. The authors carried out a comparison of the effects of commercially available materials (concrete, brick) with new (glass, Polyvinyl chloride, Polyethylene) construction materials, which have been found in many architectural and building designs recently. As a reference parameter, the authors monitored separation distance /s/ for each construction material. According to the IEC 62305-3 [2] in the second edition, the resolution separation distance has been distinguished only for the air environment and other usual building materials. However, there are also objects whose walls are made of glass, polyethylene or polypropylene, i.e. other artificial materials as well. Precisely for these reasons (with regard to sufficient dielectric strength), architects and builders select minimal separation distances of down conductors of lightning protection from internal conductive parts. They cause substantial surge in case of lightning discharge by overvoltage formation inside buildings.
