Dielectric parameters of polymer/SiO2 composite with different carrier
Original language description
Ternary insulation systems are used for several decades in high voltage engineering. The main problem is their inhomogeneous structure which may cause defects during operation and this can limit the life of the entire device. Currently, there are efforts to develop material that is macroscopically homogeneous. Homogenization of material results in a reduction of differences of local electric field intensity in the material structure, which may lead to a decrease of the electrical stress of the insulation system. New composite materials are designed using nano- particles silica (~1 wt%) and epoxy type of resin. Polyethylene naphthalate (PEN), polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and fabric with micrometric thicknesses were chosen as a carrier for this investigation. Composites were created by using a mixing method, in which a nano- filler was applied to the epoxy resin and applied on PET, PEN or glass fabric carrier component. The main aim of this paper is to describe possibilities of modification of polymer insulating materials by various types of carrier. To determine the electrical insulating properties the following characteristics were measured: polarization index, volume resistivity, dissipation factor and dielectric strength.
