The paper deals with synchronous machine model including the damper. The model considers the full damper (d and q axes) and the damper in d axis only. There are simulated transient states, especially the short circuit and its symmetric and asymmetric modifications. Attention is paid to short circuit current, mechanical torque and induced voltage on the unshortcircuited phase. The aim of this work is to make a decision whether it is possible to change the damper from full version to the d-damper only. Negative impact of the damper in d-axes only are discussed.
