Precise pattern localization in sparse data
Original language description
Localization tasks are very common in the robotics field. In our minirobotics project, we work on non-visual methods of precise robot localization. The robot position is easy to find with sensor spacing precision, but it gets more complicated in finer resolutions. In this paper we present multiple approaches which we tested. The final method with the best overall results is based on the sum of magnetic dipoles model. This model is first optimized to respect the scanned magnetic field around our minirobot and then is used for localization. Today, the precision of the method is five times higher than the sensor spacing.
