The Development and Application of Impingement Jet Cooling in the Small Traction Synchronous Machine with Permanent Magnets
Original language description
The current research primarily focuses on minimizing machine dimensions and enhancing their power density. This paper details the development of impingement cooling systems for small traction machines, which are utilized, for instance, in driving small trolleys where compact size must be maintained while maximizing the power and torque output of the electric machine. The study elaborates on the development, testing, and performance evaluation of impingement cooling, examining its efficacy relative to the pressure and temperature variations of the cooling medium. Heat transfer coefficients were determined to assess the cooling efficiency achieved under different operating conditions. The developed cooling system allowed the maximum current capability of winding to reach 14 times higher power output than the original air-cooling technique while keeping the temperature below 40°C.
