    The book analysis how communist ideology penetrated Czech culture and politics from the dawn of the 20th century into the late 1930s, just before the outbreak of Worls War II in Europe. Based mainly on the research of contemporary primary sources, the analysis combines the complex tissue of personal reasons and individual motivations, appealing slogans, and ideological and power peripeties connected with the formation of the relationship between the newly founded Communist Party of Czechoslovakia and the left-wing artists and intellectuals declaring themselves as Marxists.
