Primordial Sacred and Secular Architecture: Jan Patočka's Theory of the Work of Architecture
Original language description
The study deals with the theory of architecture of Jan Patočka. It shows that, according to Patočka, the material architecture is only the consequence of the primordial architecture, which is identical with the fundamental joining of two sensory fields, the tactile one and the visual one. The study discusses also Patočka's term "sacral transubstantiation", which depicts this process of concentration of the divine powers into the building. In this context, the study deals with the resemblences and differences between and res of Patočka's idea of the origin of a building and Heidegger's idea of the relation of the "fourfold" to a building.
