The Burden of Choice. Czech Foreign Policy between Principles and interests
Original language description
The book offers the thesis that the Czech foreigh policy abandoned its substantively defined national interests. This opened the door for a transformation of the Czech foreign policy. The charakter of the Czech foreign policy started to changed after 1990. The source of this change was the transformation of the Czech national interests. The transformation of the Czech national interests, in this case the abandonment of the narrow substantive definition of national interests and the "transition" to a national interest which includes not only Czehc Republic's own interests but also the interests of Others, was caused by a few fundamental factors: the changes in the preferences, ideas and identity of the czech society and its foreign policy makers, the influence of former dissidents on the goal and procedures of the Czech foreign policy: and last but not least, the change of the referential group into which Czechoslovakia/the Czech republic was socialized after 1990.
