Austria-Hungary and the Ottoman Counterrevolution of April 1909
Original language description
There was a major attempt of the Sultan Abdülhamid II to reverse the outcome of the Young Turk revolution in April 1909. During this period the interests of Austria-Hungary in the Ottoman Empire were endangered. Vienna therefore observed the situation inIstanbul very closely. However it decided to maintain the policy of nonintervention because the Austro-Hungarian Foreign Minister Alois Lexa Von Aehrenthal did not want to harm the good relations which Austria-Hungary had with the Ottoman government. This cautious attitude together with previous results of the policy of Vienna towards Istanbul resulted in a period of exceptionally good mutual relations of both states which lasted until 1911.
