Waismann's Criticism of the Causal Interpretation of Language
Original language description
The paper focuses on the conception of language as a mechanism of causally connected signs that seems to be the grounds for current research in the field of speech technologies. The aim is to expound the criticism of this conception which was previouslypropounded by Wittgenstein and Waismann in the middle of the thirties, i.e. in the period of collaboration between the two on the project Logik, Sprache, Philosophie. Although the originator of the criticism is probably Wittgenstein, Waismann?s exposition, which presents it in a lucid and systematic way, is followed. The causal interpretation of language is presented as misleading because of the confusion of the cause with the reason, the description of causal nexus with the justification stating the rules for our action, etc. At the end of paper the idealistic foundations of this criticism are considered.
