    Formal Classification of Settlement Burials from Moravia (Czech Republic) Dating to the Early Bronze Age

    In this study, we focus on a formal classification of irregular burials in settlement pits dated to the Early Bronze Age in Central and south Moravia in the Czech Republic. The aim of this classification is to test the assumption that individual burialsin settlement pits are the results of past populations? pragmatic actions, or of post-depositional processes in the case of isolated bones. In all, 149 individuals found in 103 different locations were investigated. Several variables were selected for the classification and basic statistical analyses. Some variables were compared with indicators from standard Moravian cemeteries. Our results indicate that there is a significant similarity between pit burials and burial-ground burials, more evident in female skeletons. These similarities can primarily be observed in the demographic profile, the ritual placement of the individuals, the grave items present (especially in terms of frequency and distribution according to demographic paramete
