Identity formation is timeless and so intertwined with an individual's growth that scholars and sociologists have been arguing about its formation and efficacy in an individual's life. One feels it's not only a post-natal phenomenon, but a pre-natal oneas well. Its hard to imagine any woman, much before she conceives, not beginning to think of her child's identity- usually by what she would want her child to be like - isn't that "identity". Such is the ubiquitousness of identity formation in a human being's life that this formation goes through many phases in its quest for identification. The school that an individual goes to, the community that she belongs to, do shape the identity of that individual. Sometimes this identity formation is initiated, and sometimes a natural corollary to an individual's development.
