Original language description
At the turn of the 30s and 40s of the 20th century Japan found itself in a complicated situation. Its aggression in China destroyed its relations with the Western Great Powers - especially United States. After the U.S. President Franklin Delano Rooseveltissued an embargo on Japan in mid 1941 Japan had only two options: to back away or to start a war against this country. Although the Japanese govermnent and military leaders considered USA to be more powerful both economicaly and in military capacity, they eventually decided to attack the United States, because they considered it necessary to preserve the independece and the honor of their country.
