This presentation, based on the preliminary results and experience of research in the field of postsocialist (in)security experts within the project "Critical Political Sociology of (In)Security Professionals", funded by the Grant Agency of the Czech Republic, dealt with the problems a researcher situated at a Czech univerzity might encounter while trying to conduct ethnographic research in a hard-to-access field. First, the presentation focused on how the structural conditions of Czech higher educationand research system impact the ability of researchers to conduct long-term stationary ethnographic research in any field, on the range of ethical, technical and epistemological problems which tend to arise while in the field, as well as on the particular challenges and research opportunities related to the combination of fieldwork based ethnographic approach, dramaturgical analysis and narrative interviewing.
