Crisis among the Great Powers: The Concert of Europe and the Eastern Question
Original language description
In this book, Miroslav Šedivý offers the most comprehensive analysis of the Rhine Crisis of 1840 to date. He uses the affair as a means to the re-evaluate both the functionality of the European Concert and the European States System in the period 1815-1848. He argues that the crisis demonstrated the decay of both systems, which went hand in hand with the decreasing confidence of European society in the fairness in international relations. In doing so he offers an original and surprising insight into the history of international relations from 1815 to 1848.
