A Cold War Conflict landscape in the borderlands of West Bohemia
Original language description
This paper discusses the formation of the Cold War landscape in the borderlands of West Bohemia during the twentieth century (the Iron curtain, deserted villages, military monuments etc). The identification and archaeological mapping of the remains of the Iron Curtain was based on Airborne Laser Scanning data, supplemented by field observation, used to support the documentation of the current status of features and observation of spatial relationships in a wider landscape context. The project is a first step towards cultural heritage protection of monuments from recent history, which are now threatened by development, but are a source of often unique information about this key period in recent history.
