In the history of archaeology we can find a limited number of disciplines that have significantly – and in certain aspects decisively – contributed to the study and understanding of prehistoric and historical (mainly ancient and medieval) periods of the human past. Remote sensing (survey) is undoubtedly one of them. The importance of its integration into the study of settlement processes in the past has been compared to the importance of the invention of telescope for the study of space. The boook describes air survay and remove sensing in archaeology from the history to the present.
