Emigration from the Habsburg Monarchy and Trieste Port
Original language description
This study deals with development of the port of Trieste and shipping companies in the first decades of the 20th century. Until 1914, the city was considered one of the most important in the Habsburg Monarchy, and after the end First World War there were protracted complicated disputes over this port and his surroundings. The former monarchy disappeared and with it had come changes in development of shipping companies which in the previous period underwent dynamic progress. This topic provides space for the analysis of the development of this area itself in terms of cultural, social, and economic history at the beginning of the 20th century. There were several shipping companies operating directly in the port, focusing on the transport of people and cargo from the Habsburg monarchy to all world. The study also deals with the phenomenon of migration, which reached own height just before the outbreak of the First World War. Subsequently, there were revolutionary changes and the winners of the war showed a clear interest in the area. The end of the Habsburg Monarchy provided space for future development of the port and changes in the functioning of established shipping companies.
