The road to dependence and periphery
Original language description
This chapter points to the economic disempowerment that turned Czechia into a poor, dependent economy on the periphery of rich Europe. The reality of the dependent economy makes itself felt by a strong dependence on foreign capital and a lack of economic convergence with the rich part of Europe. This economic disempowerment denies the hopes and expectations of the popular masses in 1989 that aimed at the restoration of national sovereignty and at catching up with Western Europe.
