Preface: Advances in Applied Geometry
Original language description
Techniques from classical geometry have helped to advance the state of the art in applied geometry, in particular in Computer Aided Geometric Design. The wealth of knowledge, which is available in classical differential, algebraic and descriptive geometry, provides many useful results for various geometric applications, ranging from geometric modeling to numerical simulation for industrial design. This special issue is devoted to new results which are based on the interaction of classical geometry withcomputational methods, such as spline techniques or numerical simulation. It contains papers which were presented at the Conference on Geometry: Theory and Applications (Plzen, Czech Republic, 2009). This conference was devoted to the memory of the lateProfessor Josef Hoschek. He was born in Litice/Littitz (now a part of Plzen) and would have celebrated his 75th birthday during the present year.
