The use of Geographic Information requires re-consideration of time/spatial accounting to achieve optimality geo-processing services essential in environmental management, as demanded by planners and decision makers. Civil Protection operators and PublicAdministrations, engaged in urban planning, resource and environmental management, need spatio-temporal processing of GI to support decision-making. With a few exceptions, current guidelines and standards do not provide such a support. The integration between INSPIRE-compliant geographic datasets and operational databases, essential in domains such as environmental risk management and civil protection, is poor. Moreover current SDIs as well as the ESDI, only partially address user needs as they offer no or very limited time variable management.
