Maintaining Cache Consistency for Mobile Clients in Distributed File System

  • Original language description

Cache in mobile devices serves for data storing in order to serve future requests to that data faster. Before the data are stored in the cache, they have to be transferred from a server through the mobile network. The mobile network is prone to failure caused by users? movement. Moreover, the speed of the network is variable because of various elecommunications technologies. Using cellular network for the communication is also expensive. Thus, once the data are downloaded, they should be stored in the cache for future reuse. On the other hand, the cached data may be in inconsistent state if the original data are changed on the server side. In this paper, we present an adaptive method for maintaining cache consistency which saves network traffic by reducing the number of messages needed for inconsistency detection.
