Models of poroelastic double porous structures based on hierarchical homogenization - application to compact bone

  • Original language description

The paper deals with the two-level homogenization procedure which provides a computational tool for modelling multi-porous media. For subsequent upscaling consequently two levels we employ the periodic homogenization. The effective poroelastic coefficients are computed using characteristic responses, solutions of local problems imposed in representative volume elements describing the poroelastic medium at various level of heterogeneity. Such a procedure can be reiterated while combining the poroelasticequations from preceding levels and various geometries of pores at different levels. In the present work we apply this approach for modelling the bone tissue taking into account geometrical features of the canalicular and lacunar porosities. In particular, the Biot continuum coefficients are obtained which describe the double porous medium. Further extensions of this model for non-steady problems are being considered.
