Anisotropic behaviour of an osteon multi-scale model
Original language description
An osteon, the construction unit of cortical bone tissue, can be modelled with help of the two-scale description as poroelastic body with characteristic periodic structure at the micro- and mesoscopic scale. The pores at the micro- and mesostructure aremutually connected and drained by a compressible fluid. By application of the unfolding homogenization method on the model at microscopic scale, the coefficients describing effective behaviour relevant at the mesoscopic scale can be computed. The effective coefficients describing elastic properties relevant to the macroscopic scale can be obtained by re-applying of the unfolding homogenization method at the mesoscopic scale. The effective poroelasticity coefficients obtained by this procedure can be used for description of single bone osteon material properties. On the presented model, the influence of choice and orientation of the geometry describing periodic structure on micro- and mesoscale on the anisotropy of poroelastic coefficien
