The purpose was to compare the outcome of mediolateral and lateral episiotomy immediately after delivery in primiparous women. The primary objective was to assess the difference in the rate of obstetric anal sphincter injuries. In addition, the difference in blood loss, duration of the second stage of labor, time of repair, and additional trauma to the perineum or vagina was evaluated.
