Optimal circulation distribution on propeller with the influence of viscosity
Original language description
Propellers maintain their importance in aircraft propulsion from the early days of aviation till today. Computation of the optimal circulation distribution on the propeller is necessary for its aerodynamic design. This paper presents a novel method for the computation of the optimal circulation distribution, which includes both the influence of the viscosity and the number of blades. It gives a mean for determination of the optimal circulation distribution on the propeller for any number of blades and for any distribution of the drag-to-lift ratio along the blade. Viscosity is described by the local value of the drag-to-lift ratio. Blade element method is used for the computation of the propeller thrust and power. The results are compared with the other methods for the computation of the optimal circulation distribution and the influence of viscosity is discussed.
