Comparison of explicit and implicit discontinuous Galerkin finite element methods for the steady and unsteady flow problems

  • Original language description

The discontinuous Galerkin (DG) method has become very popular in recent years. Many papers have been published showing advantages of the DG method, for example, its stability and high order spatial accuracy. The only question that remains unanswered isan effective way to solve the DG discretised equations in time. The present work addresses this problem by comparing explicit and implicit time integration schemes for the solution of various steady and unsteady flow problems. The computational ability of the explicit method is improved using the local time stepping technique.
