Modelling of ionic transport in cortical bone porous structure
Original language description
The transport of an electrolyte solution through an electrically charged porous medium is an important multi-scale problem with numerous applications in geophysics and bio-porous materials modeling. The microscopic description of such phenomena is givenby the linearized ionic transport equations, including the effects of ion diffusion, electromigration and convection. An asymptotic homogenization approach is then used to derive effective coefficients and equations describing macroscopic behavior. Resulting system of equations is used for the modeling of ionic transport in micro-channels in porous structure of cortical bone tissue. In order to study model behavior on different scales, a numerical simulation is implemented in FEM software.
