Modelling fatigue damage using finite elements and time homogenization
Original language description
A model in the framework of continuum damage mechanics is considered. The method of asymptotic expansions is used to derive a "homogenized" formulation of evolution in time. This formulation is suitable to describe high-cycle fatigue effitiently and, as opposed to the modal method, is applicable to nonlinear problems. Finite element models based on both full integration in time and the homogenized formulation are compared.
