Authenticity of the Medieval Temple Complex of Angkor in 21st Century
Original language description
Archaeological park of Angkor, situated in the central Cambodia, is a world unique building-archaeological site. Throughout the existence of medieval Khmer empire, a large number of monumental structures especially those with religious purpose were realised here. Until the current times, the remains of hundreds buildings have been preserved. However, the vast majority of them is in a state which may be called as ruins. There are approximately a few tens of which are in the best possible condition but even they are in various states of disintegration. Czech research team called Czech National Project at Angkor (CNPA) has been engaged in examination of their technical condition since 2010. This paper presents the architecture of these world unique medieval sights, the assessment of seriousness of their technical condition and its influence on further erosion of stone temples. Also, steps leading to conservation and restoration of this important world heritage are presented.
