Spherical harmonic analysis of gravitational curvatures and its implications for future satellite missions
Original language description
In this study we assume a gravitational curvature tensor, i.e., the tensor of third-order potential derivatives, would potentially become observable at satellite altitudes. Such tensor, composing of 10 different components, i.e., gravitational curvatures, may be divided into vertical-vertical-vertical, vertical-vertical-horizontal, vertical-horizontal-horizontal and horizontal-horizontal-horizontal parts. Firstly, we study spectral properties of the gravitational curvatures. Secondly, we derive quadrature formulas for spherical harmonic analysis of the four parts of the gravitational curvature tensor and provide corresponding analytical error models. Thirdly, requirements for an instrument that would eventually observe gravitational curvatures by differential accelerometry are investigated.
