Turbine Blades State Monitoring based on Advanced Order Analysis

  • Original language description

One of the most important parts of a steam turbine is a rotating blade and its proper construction and operation. It is key turbine component that provides the conversion of heat energy into rotational motion and that is why it is necessary to monitor blade vibrations, analyze the measured signals and diagnose the state of the blades. It is important especially in terms of the last stages of low-pressure turbine part, where are the longest blades which are forced to vibrate at most. This paper describes the new developed time-frequency method for monitoring of blade vibrations using relative rotor vibration sensors and the keyphasor, which are standardly installed and measure the machine state during operation. This method is based on order analysis, but in this case the order is not related to engine order, but to natural frequencies of the blade. It permits to have the natural blade frequency representation independent on rotational frequency. Advanced order analysis can also help us to refine the Campbell diagram of the blades normally evaluated by FEM, because the calculated natural frequencies ordinarily slightly differ from the real values during machine operation.
