Overview of absolute nodal coordinate formulation and usage of recently formulated finite elements
Original language description
This paper is dedicated to a brief description of the most common finite elements defined using the absolute nodal coordinate formulation (ANCF). The ANCF approach is suitable for modelling of flexible bodies which can be parts of multibody systems and which can undergo large rotations and displacements. Since 1996, when the original ANCF beam element was developed, whole family of ANCF finite elements have been introduced including thin beam element, plate and shell elements, solid element etc. All these elements use absolute position vectors of nodes and their gradients as nodal coordinates. Two benchmark simulations are shown and a practical use of ANCF elements is further discussed and referenced.
